The Four Scenarios
CBRN detectors are utilized in a variety of environments and scenarios. In order to capture the usefulness of each technology, four scenarios of use were devised:

  • Field/Man portable: Detectors used outdoors in a variety of environments. Typically small, lightweight, simple to operate.

  • Mobile laboratory/Field laboratory: Detectors used in a mobile or field laboratory. Likely semi-automated but small enough to fit in a confined space.

  • Diagnostic laboratory/Point of care: Detectors that have or can obtain FDA approval and 510k clearance.

  • High sensitivity, high throughput analytical laboratory: Detectors that are sensitive, potentially full automated, with a high throughput. Footprint is less of a concern.
